Happy Hour with Char

Although I was waiting for a little more news, several of you have been requesting feedback, so let me tell you what I know so far…

As you know, I had a Pet Scan (those animals are so smart!) last Friday and then went to the doctors on Monday, 4/23, for the results. The GOOD NEWS is there has been no growth since we started treatment and therefore we will gear up for the 3rd round of chemo over the next 5-10 days. In order to prepare for this next round, I am scheduled for another echo (checks the heart), and an MRI on my brain and spine next Tuesday because my balance has been off (like me!). Once the tests are back, the doctor thinks the treatment should resume early May for 5-6 days in the hospital.

In the meantime, Char came to visit! Yes, my train visiting sister came for a few days last week, although, I wasn’t sure it was her at first. When David picked her up at the station, she had had three drinks, (which for most people is like a case of beer!), and boy was she fun! So, the rest of the week we kept giving her cranberry & vodkas, which made her fun to be around, however we were eating dinner really late and Char was in the most kick-back mode I’ve ever seen!

Marla is here now, with her youngest, Miranda, for the next 2 weeks. She is helping get some things done before my next “stay” in the hospital”. I’ve been trying to get a painter to come to the house for the last few weeks which has been like pulling teeth, and she is assisting with some normal admin stuff. I think I hear her make little comments under her breath about my “A” type personality, but overall, she carts me around and does her chores with a smile! Seriously, David, and my sisters, have once again saved me from insanity.

Andrew, Marla’s youngest who lived with me for a few years in Newport, is coming to visit this weekend. It will be nice because he will be able to see his mom and Aunt at the same time. He is living in Irvine (southern cal) and just recently got a promotion at a bank into Info Tech (a real job!). California has been good for Andrew overall, he hasn’t crashed a car and seems to fit in well to this lifestyle.

I wanted to wish my cousins Xochi & Jon Congratulations on their wedding this Saturday, April 28th! Relax, enjoy and have a long healthy, life filled with love and joy!

God Bless to my friends & family

Love,
Kelly

Kelly, Glad to hear that there hasn't been new growth - that is great news! Be sure and update once you have the echo and MRI tomorrow - I know I'm not the only one waiting to hear all the details.

The bummer about Marla visiting you, is that all of your loyal blog readers won't get the benefit of laughing along with her comments!

I was thinking of taking the girls to Santa Barbara on the train -- glad to know they serve cocktails! Cocktailing on a train...hmmmm....sounds fun to me!

Off to get ready for One Life to Live. Yes, I have to prepare to watch it. I have to blend up my date, banana and almond smoothie, get in just the right spot on the couch, and put the phone right by my side so if it rings, I don't have to get up and miss anything. The commercials leave just enough time for a quick bathroom break, e-mail check and maaaybe a little chocolate.

Love you! Nicole

Hi Kelly,
Glad the pet(hope you didn't get any scratches)went well. Char's drinks are my favorite drink, only I am a two drink drunk.(Probably why my Irish husband liked me I was a cheap date) Speaking of pets,as if we don't have enough, Kaitlyn decided she wanted a male Corgi to go with her female so she talked her daddy into letting her buy one. Got him to agree that if she got two, a male and a female that she would sell one. So last night we picked up two puppies, she decided to keep the Male, name him Cutter and sold the female to her good friend. Her mom wouldn't commit so Kaitlyn knew if she got both, her mom couldn't resist. I can't believe Daddy agreed.(She got three goats last week) What Daddy's will do for their little
girls. Me on the other hand can't get my daddy to agreed to anything. Tonight I was on the phone he picked it up, told me to get off, that I wasn't worth a shi...and proceeded to holler while I was on a business call. The lady on the line started laughing and I couldn't help but laugh too! Welcome to my world with my daddy.
So, imagine this,I was working out yesterday at a small workout center struggling to do a step workout when this handsome young man walks in. Me and another XXLarge lady were struggling together. He looks at us and I am thinking what a sight we must look like fat ladies trying to do these exercises with weights when all of a sudden I trip with the weights in my hand, hit the mirror and fall flat on my face.(thank god the mirror didn't shatter) I smashed my thumb and started dry heaving in the flower bed outside. I probably scarred that kid for life. What a sight. I looked like a beached whale and when I got home my thumb swelled up like a hot dog. So I came home with my tail between my legs to lick my wounds. Can you imagine what they said when I walked out. Oh my gosh I have to go back tommorrow and face them, wonder if they'll notice me if I wear sunglasses. ha ha. Well sorry to bore you with the details I had to tell somebody. Glad you get lots of visits with your sisters, thinking of you always.Love you Cher

Cher~ Oh my goodness! Thanks for the laugh at your expense! The last time I went to the gym I accidentally walked into the men's changing room instead of the women's. I took it as a sign from God that the gym was not the place for me. :-)

Sounds like your Dad is feeling better everyday! I think you & I must be paying for all those secret sins of our teen years. This just goes to prove there is no Purgatory later cuz sister we are living in it now! I still think we should open our own "clinic" for the criminally insane since we have the perfect first two "clients" to admit.

I am at Kelly's until Monday the 7th. Any chance of seeing you since you are almost in the neighborhood? Well, not really, but at least we are in the same state for once. I really would love to see you cuz!

Bob & I are back to seriously discussing moving back to California. We love our farm so much & could never duplicate it at California prices but sometimes ya gotta do the hard thing for the better good.

Whenever Kel has a meltdown I remind her I am not about to give up my farm to move back to Cali if she is not going to continue to be the darling of the Walter Family. That usually snaps her out of it.

Oh wait, that reminds me, I am not allowed to mention anything negative about my little sister. So let me re-state that last comment. Whenever my beautiful MUCH YOUNGER sister Kelly is being way to humble about her standing in life....humility being one of her MANY virtues......I gently remind her that she is the reason each person in this family exists...to adore her! I also remind her that without her there is no PARTY since she is the life of every aforementioned celebration. If none of this works to bring her back into focus, I now remind her that with Char being the LUSH she has obviously become, it is now more crucial than ever that Kel remain grounded on this earth as I feel it would be completely out of the question to expect me to care for Dad AND our drinking MUCH OLDER sister. I only say these things knowing Char hasn't figured out how to use the computer yet so she can't read this blog! :-)

The truth is Kelly looks healthy & happy. She has her moments but like I told her the other day, why should she be any different from the rest of us. Life is just a matter of moments all hooked together. If they were all sugar our teeth would rot & we'd all be Bubbas so the sour helps even things out.

The bottom line remains the same for Kelly, Char & me. God is good & we are thankful for every day.

Kelly and Marla
Well I thought about calling the trainer today and telling her I was sick but I knew I'd have to face them at some time. Soooo I bucked up and went in and worked out. My thumb is all swollen and purple and I still can't move it but I did the deed.
Last night my Kelly's mom had to go to the hospital and get an emergency pace maker, her heart was beating at 25 beats a minute so I did a couple of shifts at the hospital today as she is a bit disoriented. Yes, I am in the geriatric stage in my life and I am progressing in half heimers rapidly. Can that be environmental?
I would love to come and see you. When are you leaving and what would be the most ideal time for you. I will try to work it out even if it is for the day. I need to see how Kelly's mom is doing. Tommorrow she comes home and we will help out as much as possible. I can't believe how many old butts I have wiped this year and I am not even in the health care profession. Amazing where life takes you. Kelly how is that new addition doing. Is she getting along with all the other animals. Hugs to all Love you Cher

Oh and by the way Kelly you always were the cutest little shi..... in the family. As my mom used to say you were full of Piss and Vinegar. And yes you were always the YOUNGER one. There is something about being younger and cuter that gets them every time.
Love you CHER

Hey Cher~ I leave early Monday morning so it would have to be this weekend. Sounds like you have your plate full as usual so if you can't do it we can meet up this summer when I come back. However, I am still hoping for this weekend as I am a typical Casas....it's all about ME!

I cannot believe you went back to the gym all banged & bruised. You are a REAL woman! What a Swiss!! SO, do you think that kid that saw you crash & burn will sue you for his counseling costs? Afterall, this is California.

Sorry to hear about Kelly's mom. She is in our prayers. I think in order to keep my Kelly & your Kelly from getting mixed up in this blog we should now refer to your Kelly as Boy Kelly. You know, like Boy George except without the makeup, dreads & well you know! Yes, I like it! Tell Boy Kelly his Okie cousins say hey!

As for your butt wiping comments all I have to say is this. In Jesus' day he called us to wash feet so just think of it as this centurys call to duty of a saint. I wonder what the gem in our heavenly crown will look like for that one! I did wonder everytime I helped my mom if my kids were going to be looking at my wrinkled rear one day fearing for their own rears. I actually said something to my son John one day about it. He, being a true Hansen, informed me that our butts already are wrinkled & added that we smell funny like old people too. Smart alec!

Kelly's new dog....a Basset Hound named Buster Brown .... is so darn cute. Jack the Labradoodle loves him. They are little brothers!

Oh my gosh I just read the last blog and you did have the date you were leaving. Well I guess I am the cornball that dad calls me. (My new pet name) By the way did I tell you how jealous I am that you got two weeks away. I don't have that luxury. I am working it out to come this weekend. I left a message on Kelly's phone you can call me to arrange it and so I can get directions. I'd appreciate it.
My e-mail is cherfitzgerald@yahoo.com if there is another number to reach you.
Thanks Guys I look forward to seeing you.
