A Silver Lining

Well, we did it! Yes, originally engaged in November, 2005 in beautiful Cayucos, CA David and I decided not to wait for a big party and tied the knot this week at a private ceremony.

It was a lovely setting overlooking the ocean in a quaint Bed & Breakfast in Pacific Grove. The room was beautiful, filled with antiques, fireplace and romance. The only thing missing was a T.V. (ha/ha/ha) which you shouldn’t need on your wedding night, but you sure get used to it in “real” life! (Yes, we broke down on our wedding and went to the TV Room to watch American Idol on our wedding night!) Let the record show, I asked David if he wanted to marry a blonde, red head or brunette and he chose a brunette. It would not have been my choice, but, he’s been such a good caregiver, I figured I should let him pick my hair for the day! He’s the been the best!

I have nothing to update on my health until my PET scan this Thursday, the 19th and the results from the doctor on the 23rd. Your thoughts and PRAYERS continue to help me remain strong in my faith, hope and love.

As always, I send my very best to you and your families,

Love,
Kelly

What!! You got married!! Ok, so I really knew however I thought I better act shocked so Maureen doesn't beat me for not telling her. I thought it only right the joyous news come straight from the horses mouth. Not that I am calling you a horse. So congratulations again!

Now about the wedding thing and the tv thing and the hair thing. You do realize how much material you have just given me to work with don't you? wahahahahahaha

Your line about "The room was beautiful, filled with antiques, fireplace and romance" leaves me with just one special thought that my own beloved children have forever placed in my heart. "GROSS, OLD PEOPLE LOVE!!!!!" Just thought I would share that with you as a special Hansen gift.

As for the tv....have you lost your freakin mind!! Basically, you paid, what....$500.....to watch Sanjaya sing. You could have stayed home in your bazillion dollar house in your trazillion dollar neighborhood & I would have done Lizzies hair in a mohawk, taped her singing a Beatles tune and sent it to you for only $100. Did our mother teach you nothing about saving money??

One last thought....no matter what wig ya wear you are still a TRUE BRUNETTE, BERNICE! Deal with it!

Dad, just came in and has decided to speak to me again. He griped me out about his car.....AGAIN! I was reading where in the Eskimo culture when the parents get really old they are placed on an iceberg with no food and sent out to sea. Seems very cruel. We think when we put dad on the paddle boat and send him out to the middle of the pond we will at least give him a days worth of food. Seems only right.

Love you & can't wait to see you on Monday!

Ohmigosh, you got married! I am so happy for you! Kevin and I both are so happy for you. (Of course I called him right away, soon after sending it out via email to maybe 100 other people.) Even though we've never met David, clearly he is a blessing in your life. Doesn't it feel good to know its right? Many, many happy thoughts are coming your way! Love, Nicole

Nicole has never met David?? Well, if she has met YOUR FATHER she has met David....so to speak. Very Freudian marriage choice, Kel. I am going to dig out my psych books & see what is WRONG WITH YOU!!! Thank goodness David loves animals or I would have to reserve a place on the paddle boat for him too!

Congratulations Kelly & David!
Kelly, you are the most amazing woman! Here you are going through all of these treatments, and you still find time to have more excitement and action than I've had in the last 14 years!! You've put us all to shame, I tell you!
Seriously, I am so proud of you there are no words. You exemplify the Casas fighting spirit!
God bless you both, and all of your fur (and feathered) babies!
Love Always,
Your cousin Kathy OXOXOXOX
PS: Marla: I am waiting for you to write a book - your Christmas letters from years ago are still brightening my days. I keep them in my address book and every once in a while I read them for a good laugh. You are a writer!! Very few people have the gift you do, and I pray you start putting some books together. I will be your best customer! I love you cousin!

Hey Kath! I am so glad to see you on Kelly's blog. It reminded me I never called you back which I am sure was a shock to you and all the others who know me so well. Ok, so I find a sick, strange pride in my procrastination. We all need to be good at something!

If I can ever find the paper I scribbled your number on I will call you. I may even have your number in my phone book. But then I would need to know where THAT was. Ok, so I am actually great at TWO things....procrastination & disorganiztion. I fear the list of my "accomplishments" would grow drastically if I was really honest with myself....like that will ever happen!

How kind of you to say such nice things about my writing. If I had as much faith in my ability as others seem to have I would be rich & famous by now. But then I would probably have my books made into movies & what would I wear to the premier, Dolce Gabbana PLUS size??? First thing you know Oprah would be calling me & once she got me on her set & started grilling me about my "real" life I would slip & start talking about Dad. Poor Oprah would think it was a Jerry Springer episode. Then she would ban my books from her booklist as I am sure she would not want to be associated with the whole mess of drugging the elderly & all.

Next thing you know I would be shaving my head & checking into rehab. So as you can see I have probably chosen the better path by only harassing my family & friends through Kelly's blog.

All that to say...I love you & miss you & think of you more than you would imagine.

Kelly and David,
Congrats on the quicky marriage, I gotta give you one high five to have a private wedding in this family. If we all would have know we would have had a potluck. ha ha
The room was beautiful, filled with antiques, a fireplace and romance but by the way we went to the community TV room so we could get a little with American Idol. Did you hear that Marla? I think she has gone crazy, too.
Marla, are you in Salinas?
As far as a writer you are terrific, I would like to know why Oprah never does any shows on the sandwich generation those of us that have teenagers and old folks.
Boy could Marla and I give her an earfull. As far as the plus size dolce cabana I think we should make our own brand called Two ton Tony that seems to be dads favorite name for me now. Interesting how they loss their inhabitions, oh I think I hear him hollering at me from across the yard that is also this weeks learned behavior. oh joy oh joy
Kelly I am so happy for you and am waiting for the good news with your PET scan...What's with all the animal names...Cat scan, can you imagine trying to keep a cat still for that. Ouch.
Give all your animals a hug including your new one, David and Marla you are pulling our legs about him being like your dad aren't you. That is a scary thought marrying our fathers.
Sending white light your way. Love you lots, your cuz, Cher

Hey Kelly,
I meant to tell you that you would look great in any hair color. Your smile would shine just as brightly with blonde, red, brunette, or even black (a little harsh - but who knows!).
Now is the time to experiment!
I pray you are gaining in strength and stamina with each new day.
Love you dear cousin,
Kathy
PS: Marla, so good to hear from you (at long last!!)...
Trust me, the only thing Oprah would have to worry about in having you on her show would be her ratings going sky high! Then, next thing you know, Oprah is passe' and Marla is the new talk show maven!!
Now this I can see happening!
Of course, I would want a guest appearance, and the show about your Dad sounds like one that I would enjoy sitting in on! I know I will have to wait in line, but I am a patient woman...
Thank you for giving me another good belly laugh today Marla!
I love you,
Kath

Hi Kelly! Congratulations to you and David! I have been checking in on you (via this blog) since Karen told me about it last year and get a kick out of seeing messages from people I remember meeting once or twice. I love that you keep everyone updated on what is going on with you (with humor, of course!)and I will keep you in my prayers. My dad also says to tell you hello and hopes you are doing well.

Congratulations again!
