Finally some good news! Finally!
Well, Kelly had surgery today and it went well. Before they started the surgery, the doctors reviewed a Plan A, which is the one they really wanted to do and then a Plan B, if things didn't go so well. Well, Kelly finally has some good news and they were able to do plan A and everything turned out as good as they had hoped.

Kelly had her largest tumor removed and most of her left hip (there wasn't much left). They were able to rebuild it and put her back together. She is going to be able to walk again and most of her pain should be gone. She's getting some quality of life back. You guys really have no idea what a struggle this last year has been for Kelly, just to go to the bathroom was a major struggle, she had no quality of life.

I am so happy and excited for her I don't know what to do. All I can say is thank you to everyone who has prayed for her and helped her through this.

She is going to have to wear a brace for about 12 weeks, and I'm sure she will start complaining about it, but she is so far ahead of where she was, it's like she's ready to run a marathon.

Thanks again to everyone for their prayers, they really worked.

David

Send our thanks to everyone in Houston (Marla, Char, Teresa, the Doctors, everyone) for taking care of our wonderful friend, sister and wife. David, thank you for the wonderful update. Yahoo. How are you doing David? I have called Marla's cell but have only gotten the answer machine. Please have her call me so we can figure something out. David, I know that this has been a trying year for you, Marla, Char as much as it has been for Kelly. I am so grateful that she is finally in the place that is going to help her and that you are all with her. Hugs to all of you. Love you, Cher

She is so lucky to be in Houston, and so lucky to have such a supportive family and so lucky to have you in her life. I can only imagine how exhausting and trying this experience has been for all of you - know that we think of you all daily and are sending our love and hope for great things for Kelly and for you all! I have snuck out of the hospital long enough to shower and comment on the blog. Char is there with Kelly and we are hoping she won't notice the difference. Seems Kel prefers me for caregiving and Char for hair & make-up. If Kel does wake while I am gone I can only hope she wants a makeover.

These last few days have been tough on the old gal but she is a true Swiss. Tough as nails and always ready with a smart alec answer. I personally don't agree with the statement that she had no quality of life but now will. When a person is as loved and cared for as Kelly there is always quality in that. She may have lost independence because of this illness however I truly believe there is much to learn through being forced to depend on those that love you. Givers such as Kelly seem to have the worst time receiving. Learning to receive from those so eager to give back is a gift. So there's my two cents!

Just a little note for JavaJimmy~
You are a sick and twisted man. Will you be my new best friend??

Ok, gotta shower and run back to the hospital. I am sure they have saved the bedpan for me....again!

Marla,
Thanks for giving us an update. I just can't see Char with a bedpan in hand. Like I told you before it is having, kids, farm animals and our dear ole' dads that make us not so squeamish. Ha ha. Do you have the trailer parked there? Glad you got to take a shower, us old gals start stinkin after awhile. Hugs to you all am thinking about you every minute of the day. Dad sends his love to Kelly and is asking in his broken language skills about her daily. Tells me call someone to check on her. Anyway Love you all. Cher

Praise the Lord that they got that tumor out and rebuilt Kelly's hip!
I understand this kind of pain well, and want you all to have very high hopes for Kelly's future after this type of surgery.
When I had my last hip surgery (#9) in 1995, my entire pelvic bone was gone with the exception of the very edge. It had turned to mush, and all of the bone in the weight bearing joint was gone as well. My femur was fractured down to my knee. After my surgery I couldn't sit upright for 4 months (had a body brace), and then spent another year in a wheelchair and on crutches. I am now pretty good on the basketball court, and am known as the Mad Dribbler by my kids! I do have rough days, but for the most part do quite well (all things considered). I've had six hip surgeries on the left hip, and three on the right one. Long story short - I know Kelly is going to recover well from this very tough surgery, and she will be out there shooting 3 pointers before you know it! I love you all and have been praying hard for Kelly's complete and incredibly swift recovery. My mother, my sisters, and myself are united in praying for her daily.
From one hipster to another -
Love,
Cousin Kathy

PS: David, you are so right - Kelly has been bathed in prayer, surrounded by prayer, enveloped in prayer. So many loving prayers whispered up to the ear of our God by those who love her.
Love,
Kathy

Marla,Kelly, Char, and David,
I went to say goodbye to dad before I got on the plane to Boston on Sunday and he could not move his legs so weak Kelly and I barely got him to the bed he got sick and we called 911. I missed my flight and spent the day in the ER. He has a urinary tract infection, which as we know knocks out the ole folks quickly. I changed my flight to later in the week so I will still try to go to Rory's wedding. The caregiver will take my place at the hospital daily and he should be fine in a week or two.
I am thinking of you all and sending white light your way. Hugs to you and a Happy Thanksgiving you will get to be with each other after all.
P.S. When Kelly didn't feel up for shopping Marla and I did a marathon with the girls and came back to give Kelly a fashion show and for her to critic our purchases. Next time Kelly you are going with us. You go Girl.
Love you, CHER

Kelly,
NOTES ON THE DECORATING EXTRAVAGANZA!!
After a long, hard search for the brass turtle
I got to see your awesome pad & sleep with my best friend in one of your very comfy beds. It gets better. I got to see your "puppies", your pictures of family and friends, and got to chat a bit with your hubby. (I think we woke him up on Saturday night-oops) Gina pointed out one of your great aunts house? She also pointed out all the things that you love about Prunedale.

So after quite a few trips to "Dollar Tree" (which by the way, I think I may switch my obsession with Target to Dollar Tree) Gina finally felt that the Salinas store was indeed festive enough and we were then able to move on to Watsonville.

How bummed were we (actually laughing so hard....you guessed it...peeing our pants) when we discovered we couldn't fit all the Chrismas goodies into her car. Oh well we will just make two trips to the storage unit. Uh oh storage closes at 7:00pm. It's now 9:00. So we do the next best thing. We go to Denny's of course. Go home. Oops...did I tell you we set off the alarm at the Watsonville store. I was ready to make a run for it. Gina managed to turn it off and convince the security folks that we were hired help.

I'll give you part two later. I'm worried I may be boring you. By the way the stores look great. The only problem is that you weren't there. I'm thankful Kelly that I was able to be there with Gina and just feel close to you. I don't know if that makes any sense. Happy Thanksgiving Kelly. Lots of hugs.

Helene

Kelly, I normally just phone but decided to jump into technology of today and post to the blog!!! What a concept. As you know I get all the first hand details from Theresa and sisters and I am so happy all went great. You'll be back to bossing around the employees at the store in no time! Helene and I went up to decorate and as she posted it was a chain of comic events. You know when I am involved with things that is how it usually goes. It all looks great and Im sure you will have customers knocking down the doors to get in.
Well I just wanted to touch base and let you know I was thinking about you and glad your on the quick road to recovery.
By the way, Larry and I are meeting the fockers tonight so I will let you know how it goes!!!
Love you lots,
Gina

Kelly and all:

I'm heading up to Vegas and Laughlin for the weekend - Thanksgiving in the buffet lines, and Saturday night seeing Mary Wilson of the Supremes.

Just got an email from my friend Caroline, who's been battling breast cancer the past year - she just had her last radiation treatment, and she's CANCER-FREE!

So, I'm extra Thankful this year that I'm going to keep two of my best buds for a long time to come.

Everybody enjoy your Thanksgiving Day and your celebrations!

Does anyone want me to put down a bet for them?

Jimmy

PS: Marla, have you served lunch yet?
